Investigations in public!

I am deeply disgusted by our policy and investigations department.....

Recently, Haron Mwau, a wanted 'drug baron' by the US claimed that his life is in danger; in accordance to our laws, the police handled him a security team and initiated an investigation in to his claims. On Thursday, 23 June 2011, His vehicle was spayed with bullets but he was not in the car. According to media sources, the driver and his body guard we in the vehicle but they escaped unhurt.

This is a very worrying scenario given how armed gangster carry superior wepons to our police and security officers. The police immediatly jumped on the case and launched investigations. What i disgusting about the investigation is that they are being conducted in the media. The police have made it clear that they do not believe that Mwau's car was attacked by thugs. They have greatly disregarded the drivers/bodyguards story.

It is highly unprofessional for the investigating party to discuss their personal opinions camera before the investigations are complete. I was shocked to see the police order the driver to enter the car so that they can see how the bullet missed him - in full view of the camera. link  | link | link

While the police are well capable of doing a thorough job, I have no trust in the media. Today's media is obsessed with shaping opinions instead of informing them! whatever credibility the Mwau's story has, will be lost  swiftly through the media. Once the media brands it as lies/set up, the investigation will be skewed that way. I believe the police should only use legal means to release information to the media on any investigation being done!

Why this is sad is sad is because, it forms a precedent which the wealthy and the influential can 'buy' the media to water down any credible story/event.

It is my prayer that someone will pick this on and put things in order.
